Palative Prevarications

Palliative Prevarications

An abridged version of this letter has been sent to the Ojai Valley News and is expected to appear in their Friday November 13, 2015 edition of the paper.

The celebration of Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for the abundance of food we might otherwise take for granted. Now it is easy to slip down to the corner store and get whatever your tongue began salivating for after the eyes observed some new food product advertisement on the television.   But it was not too long ago where food was not so easy to come by and for many getting adequate nourishment remains a daily struggle. In the days of the first Thanksgiving nearly everyone engaged in some form of gardening or crop production, now most of us are fed by the 2% of the entire population we refer to as industrial corporate farmers.

Corporations like Monsano are attempting to monopolize the most basic grains of life such as wheat, soybeans and corn etc. Slowly the public is realizing how our health has been jeopardized by the interests of big business.

There is a Bengali proverb that declares: “Too much devotion is a sign of a thief.”   In the West this saying often shows up in the form of over-hyped disingenuous corporate philanthropy. For example in 1990 McDonalds finally agreed to stop packing it’s world famous ¼ McCarcus in #6 polystyrene foam shells so they could showcase their commitment to the ecology.   However this was no act of conscience in regards to saving the environment, it was a public relations decision intended to appease the concerns of customers they could still lured in to purchase their death on a bun product line.

The “Burger Kings” of the world hoard the majority of the available grain, fresh water and energy to produce their product and they continue to be the biggest threat to the Rain Forrest. Just how “Happy” is McDonalds? Well after discontinuing the use of the polystyrene packaging for their signature product, the clown added Sweet Tea to his menu.   Those who purchased it got 21ox of tea, 11 ozs of ice and a 32 oz polystyrene foam cup!

Commercial prevarication wouldn’t be stopped by ordinances. It will only stop when “We the People” stop acquiescing to pusillanimous commercials that go unquestioned. When 700,000 smokers if Florida decided to hold the Tobacco companies responsible for over 60 years of lying to the public about the dangers of nicotine, they were awarded a judgment of $145 billion in punitive damages!

Yet excessive meat consumption is a more insidious threat to our welfare then cigarettes and the majority of the public remains silent. Cattle ranchers indoctrinate children and insist that pre-teens need to be taught how to “Properly” process the harsh realities of animal slaughter to perpetuate their industry.

But what price does society pay when a child is taught to suppress the natural feelings of empathy and compassion that inevitably arise when the last time they see the animals they love is when they are auctioned for the weight of their flesh and sent off to have their throats slashed?   The “4H” club insists that the children are fully aware of how the pet they cared for gets treated after the auction but how could they be?

At factoryrtoursusa.com you can learn about how virtually anything is made. Big food companies like General Mills, Betty Crocker, and Hershey Chocolate invite the public to inspect their factories. But you will not find any invitations to see what goes on in a slaughter house because the sighs, sounds and smells are so ghastly the unprepared depart with nightmares!

The ominous impact of the meat industry is slowly being exposed by grass root efforts. As the public becomes more aware of the ugly cruelty that lies at the core of a carnivorous culture they find creative ways to justify it. Now it is fashionable to defend ones diet with: “I only eat grass fed cows.” However the scull of the cow is still heartlessly crushed at the prime of their life so the addicted can continue to enjoy his flesh.

New Euphemisms like “Omnivores Dilemma” and Oxymoron’s like “Compassionate Slaughter” are used to assuage the guilt of those who are enamored by the unnecessary taste of flesh. It might console some carnivorous masticators that the body they eat had a chance to see the sky and romp thru real grass, but emotional palliatives are excuses for the sensuously weak.   They do not appease the heart of someone who couldn’t possibly hunt down, kill and butcher an innocent animal for dinner. Hunters pride themselves in declaring “Not Me!”   But how honorable is it to ambush an innocent forest creature from 50 yards away with the same type of weapons degenerate inner-city gang members use to also recklessly kill others?
Generally, he prescribes for the disease buy cialis from india. Also, they improve blood circulation to increase supply of oxygen in the body which are very much necessary for achieving successful sex downtownsault.org discount cialis drive. If stimulation is lower, like in case of real girl, they don’t get an erection as well as get the ability to maintain it throughout get viagra in canada our storefront the period of sexual intercourse. How Do ED Pills Provide Hard On? Now that you have chosen to generic sildenafil viagra etc, you have to a sip of water to intake the medicine.
Let those attached to eating other creatures go out and hunt down the flesh of their choice with their bare hands. To hire the meat industry as legal hit men to do ones bloody work for them is cowardly and hypocritical.

Some will object that man’s more capable brain designed the shotgun and provides him a legitimate survival advantage similar to the biological advantages tigers have with very sharp claws and teeth when hunting. To those folks we acknowledge that man’s brain is more capable but point out that is why we have more responsibility to conduct our affairs from a higher state of consciousness than the four primitive animal propensities. 1) Eating 2) Sleeping 3) Mating 4) Defending.

As humans we have the opportunity to inquire deeply about our human condition and that is what the real gift of human intelligence is intended for. Will society remain ignorant another 50 years before realizing the dire consequences our eating habits have on aspects of our survival and quality of life?

There is really no good reason why we need to kill other creatures and there is a long list of medical, environmental, ethical, and philosophical reasons why we shouldn’t. Unfortunately it will probably take society another 50 years of colon cancer to finally realize this truth, just like it took 50 years of lung cancer for the average commercially manipulated citizen to realize the detriments of smoking.

This year consider something different and try hosting a Turkey-less Thanksgiving. If you are not sure what that might look like, attend the vegetarian ceremony of thanks on Nov 17 at 7:30pm sponsored by the Devotees of Krishna in Ojai California who can be reached at: 640-0405

Thank You!
