  1. DECEPTION is a well-researched book

DECEPTION (Poisonous Deception) is an extraordinary book. This valuable book is a search for truth that chronicles and offers a balanced and detailed analytical research that took three years to investigate the circumstances related to the final days in the life of a remarkable teacher. This book thoroughly and fairly explores the controversy surrounding the conditions of the physical transition of the spiritual teacher Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Deception also serves as a rich resource that catalogs events and offers effective exploratory and analytical presentations to assist future inquiries.

From my experience of reading this book, it is clear that William G. Roberts aka Mayesvara Dasa has written DECEPTION from a deep heart filled with love and devotion, from an ocean of care for his spiritual path; and profound reverence for the Guru on an uncompromising quest for truth and clarity. No-doubt he has given us all a valuable historical resource for future inquiries into this controversial subject.

This is an important book and as a comprehensive resource includes elaborate observations, analysis, inventories and chronicles that shed light on both the spiritual and historical aspects of the events surrounding the passing of Swami Prabhupada. Both current and future scholars, researchers and devotees of ISKCON can all appreciate the thorough ways the issues are scrutinized. Those who familiarize themselves with the logically arrived conclusions will be enriched with the conviction of sound reasoning about this subject.

DECEPTION is written in a new, unique and marvelous style that helps readers follow the various tracks and stay interested and engaged. There are moments of levity and lightheartedness with inserts and entries that bring the reader along; a respite from tackling a very serious issue at hand.

As an academician and a former librarian, I highly recommend this beneficial and educational book. I am not a member of ISKCON, I have been to Krishna temples in various countries, and always highly treasure and enjoy my association with the devotees and appreciate their positive and loving contributions in this world.

DECEPTION is a must-read for anyone who remains ambiguous about the events surrounding the departure of Bhaktivedanta Swami. It sheds a needed bright-light on the truth about his departure; and grants devotees a firm foundation for clarity, and reflection by all.

  2. The conspiracy theory that Srila Prabhupada was poisoned has been debunked.
When I first heard about the poison theory, I thought, “That’s ridiculous.” Then some friends who I respected for their intelligence indicated they thought there could be some truth to it and shared their reasons with me.

I still had my doubts. Srila Prabhupada was 81 years old, diabetic, and had kidney problems. He was in very frail health, having suffered a stroke and two heart attacks. Yet the rumor was that a team of his close disciples had decided to poison him to snatch his throne of power?

OK. Because it’s Kali yuga, I considered perhaps one senior disciple might have slipped so much they could dream up how to poison the same man he had spent years worshiping. But the propaganda was that a whole team of disciples conspired to carry out this horrible deed, and that was beyond anything I, and apparently many others, could ever conceive of.

Then recently I discovered that my trusted friend Mayesvara dasa (William Roberts) had written a whole book about the Poison Conspiracy. I knew he was a database engineer and was respected for his analytical skills and intelligence. So I was quite anxious to see what the conclusions were from the comprehensive independent study he conducted on this delicate subject. How reassuring it was to discover how much of my original intuition was spot on. For example, in section 10.6.2, called “Why Kill a Man about to Die?” he concludes: “Based on these accepted Census Bureau records, it is reasonable to say that in 1977 Srila Prabhupada had already lived approximately 20 years longer than the average man from his demographic group!”

DECEPTION is a must-read for those who honestly want to know if there is any merit to the poison allegations. I can hardly find any aspect of the poison conspiracy that the book doesn’t thoroughly reveal as unsubstantiated, contrived, or intentionally deceptive. All the allegations are dismantled, leaving only one reasonable conclusion: “Nobody could have poisoned Srila Prabhupada the way the poison propaganda has led some to believe.”

DECEPTION is a serious study filled with scientific evidence, clear logic, and common sense. The objective reader will also discover that the book identifies many absurd claims, ridiculous assumptions, and incompetent research. Mayesvara uses those occasions to add levity to an otherwise painful and tedious subject that has driven many people away from these contemptuous allegations. I am quite happy that after I’d finished reading DECEPTION it was very clear to me that the prevarication behind the poison-conspiracy theory has now finally been completely exposed, and that the theory itself has been dispensed with.

  3. A VERY THOROUGH AND EXTENSIVE REVIEW OF THE FACTS
Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2020
To begin with this is a dense book. It is not something you can just read like going through a novel and then put down. It is more like going through Wikipedia and having to click on thousands of links to other pages to really understand it all. So most people like myself will pluck through it here and there looking at specific topics to get more in depth understanding. What the book lacks then is a smooth easy to get through narrative. (If you want that go to the documentary Deception – Poison – Conspiracy – Fraud on Youtube). What the book has is seemingly endless amounts of facts. As someone who is not in ISKCON (I have only attended a few classes and was curious about the teachings), but who was wanting to just research this poison theory. I was very convinced by the book and documentary that like so much of what is out there today the previous assertions of poison now seem to me to be rushed and to have an agenda behind them to bring down a spiritual teacher or organization (a tendency which is based on emotional reactions and not reason). But, if you can handle plodding through the facts and keeping your emotional bias out of it…. then this book is for sure for you… and will most likely convince you that the disciples around Prabhupada did not poison him, but were attempting to care for him as best as they could.
